Gentlemen, I was encouraged to present my airport model here.

As early as I received my first Schabak model in 1990, I started building my own airport model. I was seven years old then, so my first model was rather primitive.

Since then, I rebuilt my model very often, always improving it little by little. At some point, I named my airport “Wolkenburg International”, imagining it was located on a German-languaged island in the north sea. When I was 16, the airport was nearly as big as my whole room. Because I wasn’t able to let any guests in anymore, the size had to be reduced again.

Meanwhile the airport consists of three parts: The "terminal-and-apron"-part, which I presented to Jannis and Frank recently, and two "runway" parts. Each is about 1 m² in size. The parts can either be presented individually or be joined by wooden sticks to one big model (if there is enough space).

At the moment, there is a central terminal building with two piers, one being used by the Star Alliance and another one by all the other carriers. The piers have 14 gates each (9 positions for aircraft sizes up to the 767-300, 1 for up to the A340-300 / 777-200 size, 3 for up to the A340-600 and 1 A380 position). Furthermore there are 5 positions for Regionaljets, but these positions are hardly used at the moment because there aren’t any new smaller jets and props offered in the 1:600 scale (so come on, Schuco, do something!).

Future ideas involve a satellite pier and a third runway as well as a hotel and a railway station. But I’m not sure if I’ll have the time to construct this someday…

Here are some pictures…

Some weeks ago, I found a way to redesign the terminal roof. Now it can be opened to look into the departure hall and counter area.

WOW! Such great layouts are possible only in 1:600! Congratulations, especially for the inner life of the terminal!

Unbelievable how much details and handwork you put on this model. Great Job!

Same problem overhere. Can you imagine how much work I have to put on my model for the next years.

The great fun is nevertheless worth the effort, isn't it?
Thanks for your nice acknowledgements!

You should help the guys at Miniatur-Wunderland in Hamburg Speicherstadt to get their model done!

I cross fingers your next flat is going to be bigger so you can make your masterplan become reality. This model deserves a wooden ground and not cardboard.

Keep me updated!

Love your Diorama, Maxi -
especially the layout seems much better as existing bigger airports
(like our Rhein-Main) - go further ! Next time in HAM would like to see "Wolkenburg International "

Hope to meet you in Schwanheim next time my friend !

Congratulations to this airport.

Well, I dont think that your Airport needs another Runway, but a Satellite would be great, also a railway station or/and a hotel.

Is the runway system selfmade (I think so, isnt it?)

Thank you! Yes, the runways (and also the aprons) are made of cardboard parts that can be switched together with wooden sticks.

A single platform of wood might be better, but this would cause additional problems when moving the appartment...

Finally: The LH A380 on its crew training tour at Wolkenburg!
Two gates are already equipped with a third bridge to access the upper deck.

What a masterpiece Maxi!

Are you align with the LH routing and offer seats Wolkenburg - Tokio/Jo´burg/Beijing or does your A380 fly to other fancy destination?

See you soon

Thanks! The firetruck fountain is made of transparent plastic foil on which I drew some foam with a white pen. The flash of the camera also added some white light.

@Frank: The crew training was the second visit of the A380 on my model airport (the first one was together with you in February ). By now, the aircraft is not a regular visitor, but if that Icelandic volcano starts to spread its ash again, we might possibly see a diversion en route NRT-FRA!

I'll post new pics from time to time.
