I was interested to know what people think of the new Schuco 1:600 models that replaced the original Schabaks.
I think they have been a big improvement especially with the printing and extra detail. One thing I've heard a lot is that people only get the new models that were never made by Schabak. I get them all and have found it interesting to compare the old and new versions. There has been a big improvement between them, which for me makes it worthwhile getting them plus I'm a completist. Still I wish there were less of them!
On the downside Schuco still show a worrying lack of attention to detail. So to sum up for me:
Highs:
A380, A340-600, 747-400 new moulds
Pad printing
Extra details
Lows:
Too many repeats of old Schabak models
Too many boring liveries like Air France and Phillipines
Too few new moulds
What do others think?

Schuco is only a part of Samba-Dickie Toys
Stil symply a toy-maunfacturer who looks on fast and high yield...
as every company do in this days .. see our famous Mr. Mehdorn of Deutsche Bahn...
or who ever .. banks, car factories ....
If the new 747-4 mould able to rise up the selling, then it would follow more attention to better and new moulds...
But this need time ..
I guess that earliest at the toy fair 2009 at Nuremberg we will see the result..
More news or even not ....

I hope the new 747 mould sells well. It ought to in the absence of much herpa competition assuming that is that there is still a market for the scale. I assume Schabak lost a lot of business due to their poor quality and hope that Schuco can get some of that back.
What is your feeling Wilfried? Have sales of the new Schuco's been good for you or has there been no change? Do you have any idea what Schuco's sales are like elsewhere?

Hi Richard,
itīs not easy to presume what goes on at the whole marked...
I expect a rising up in selling scale600 , as this month I reached the volume of complete 2007 selling ...
...
but how many airport shops offer Schuco scale600 ?
6 or 7 in Germany , but no idea how many in europe and near east ?
And what is their result ????
.. at least ..some "white places" around the globe ..
........on the other side , I like it

When I look on ebay there are many many new Schuco retailers.
So I guess the models selling not that bad.
But to see how good the new mould sells they should release some more airlines on that mould!

I guess this was the result of the almost two-year-absence of Schabak (and, thus, the 1/600 scale) from the market. Schuco had a bad performance following the take over of Schabak, with the contradictions concerning new (and newly released, but in fact old) moulds; plus all the trouble with the huge entry into the aircraft scale model market they planned, which turned out to be a desaster regarding the upset distribution of Inflight's high-quality products. However, this seems to be history now and numbers are getting better.

I did not pay too much attention to the shops at DUS recently but, generally, I think the former "airport goodies shops" do not longer exist (you know, I am talking about these small newsstand-like shop with all that airline memorabilia stuff). Today, most of the bigger airports in Germany have a real, privately-owned "flight shop" - and if I am not mistaken, the DUS Flight Shop does not offer anything smaller than 1/500...

Don't know about today, but when I was in DUS with Julian last year, we took a look into the Flight Shop and discovered several of the Schuco scale 600 releases there. 744 AF and BA, for example...

Anyway, I'll check that on Friday and will post here.

There is also a big shop of aircraft models at Tokyo's Narita airport. Last week I count more than 70th models including the new BA Concorde and Niki A321. The prices are the same as in europe (the distance from China isn't really long).

The model shop at Osaka-Kansai has also been offering Schabak/Schuco for a long time. When I was there in February this year, they still sold it, but there were less than the 70 items you saw at Narita. They were rather expensive compared to Germany's (and especially compared to Wilfried's ) offers, but I don't remember the exact price.
Anyway, let's have a look at the situation at LHR tomorrow, Julian!

I stand corrected, Maxi! I checked out the DUS Flight Shop last weekend, they are offering a selection of Schuco 1/600 releases, indeed. I counted 30 different Schuco models, whereas they had only two HerpaMagics left (767-300 Delta, 767-200 Continental).

Maybe I am blind? :drunk:

LHR no! At least not in T5. I looked for them in three different shops there, but none of them offered any scaled model aircraft. Neither Schuco/Schabak nor Herpa/Magic.

Ok I didn't look close in TXL. This is one of the ugliest airports I've ever been.
I just wanted to get out of there.

 I couldn't agree more! TXL definitely is one of the ugliest airports ever. Followed by Cologne-Bonn, though. But... when it comes down to ugly or boring airports, then there are so many others...!

Schiphol for instance ?
You need more time on a conveyor belt to the right gate, then a flight duration to FRA or HAJ need:cool:

This comparison reminds me of an incident last July. I was going to meet Kuempser on the terrace at HAM. I travelled by train/bus starting at Hamburg University while he departed even a little later on an OLT Saab 2000 from Bremen. When I arrived he was already standing inside the terminal building...
As soon as the railway access to HAM will be opened (December 11th this year), such things hopefully won't happen anymore!

Nothing can compare to LAX for ugliness and poor experience. I travelled through there a few days ago on my way to MSP and it was not pleasant. Thankfully its SFO for me on the way back.
So Wilfried is it looking like we will not see anymore new Schucos before Christmas or are you expecting to be surprised? PR 747 new mould perhaps?
Super-Conny

not at all
the new 747 mould replace the former one step by step, but Schuco is not able to tell me which one is the next
PR & BA already done, but in their warehouse still both possibilities..
Schuco can not confirm to ship the right ones ! So I dont like to have
some old moulds .... I want only the new ones for sure !
I dont like to play a storage for unselling models

You're right, of course! But I guess if there hadn't been the EXPO in Hanover, things would have been a little different there as well...

Maxi ,
Terminal C was opened in1998 , the railway station was already included.
But due expecting Expo in 2000 the burgomaster was clever enough to wait
for an government grant  so no financial problems for the city ,
let say : tracks got without own expenses:wink:
